Identify Plants, Animals, Monuments with Your iPhone

This week, I’d like to share some tips on following tech news, but you may ask “why should I?” After all, isn’t that our job? Sure, it is! We not only follow tech news, but also regularly attend conferences and bootcamp sessions to stay ahead of the curve for you. In the photo above, you can see some of our team members and I getting educated at a vendor bootcamp that took place earlier this week. Our team is always learning something new, and that’s one of the reasons why we love what we do. We are curious by design, so you will see us ask lots of questions as we learn about you as well. However, no matter how many questions we ask, no one will intimately know the inner workings, weaknesses, and frustrations of your business as well as you do. You and your team members can make a massive positive impact by catching glimpses of new technology and connecting them to an existing need at your business.

We love hearing from clients who discover new products and ask our team to do some digging. Our favorite is when a client calls in to share their concern about a security breach they have read about and how they could see their team fall prey to something similar. The knowledge gained by following tech news can empower you to implement better practices and seek our help to make improvements. Still, tech news can be boring and tedious to sort through. Luckily, there are strategies that will help.

To start, instead of sticking to a single news outlet, I enjoy consuming news via curated news apps. This way I get a good variety of content, validation of accuracy, and an assortment of opinions. I’m an Apple user and have subscribed to the News app which curates content based on my selections. The News app is available on all Apple devices. You can follow this article on how to pick channels and topics of interest, and I suggest adding “Technology” as a topic. But the News app isn’t your only option. Flipboard has been around for a very long time and does a great job of curating articles based on your selections. Those who prefer Google can also go with Google News. Both Flipboard and Google News have apps for iOS and Android. Of course, these two are also accessible on your PC or MAC.

Did somebody say interesting? Here are a couple articles that popped up in my tech news channel recently: LGBTQ-plus business tags and how lawmakers are asking Google to fix misleading search results. In addition, I find adding news sources like inc.com to my newsfeed very helpful. They often have valuable articles related to technology, such as this article with a simple yet very important message: “If you make a promise, you have to keep it. Just because you reserve the right to back out of your promise, doesn’t mean you should. In fact, I’d argue that’s the one thing no company should ever do. Why? Because trust is your brand’s most valuable asset.“

As Dr. Seuss famously said “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” So, take a few minutes and build out that perfect news board and you will be surprised what you discover, and the places those discoveries will lead you.

Best,
